Symposium on Operating Systems and Security

Friday, April 23, 2004

Miller Learning Center, St. Cloud State University

Providing security to computer information systems and communications is one of the highest national priorities. Operating systems and network security are vital for information assurance, the security and growth of the nation. Computer and network security curriculum will play a major role in developing our future experts to reach that goal. It is a task of the faculty to prepare computer system professionals with current security and assurance information with skills. To meet this urgent need, the faculty must be informed of the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be taught in the curricula.

This symposium will provide a venue for the faculty to develop, teach and expand the information, operating systems and security curricula for the students in universities and state colleges. It will bring together the faculty members who are scattered in many discipline programs to meet, network and discuss common issues about teaching and learning computer security curricula. Several experts from the rest of the nation will share their skills and experiences in lab-centered instructions, cooperative learning and case studies for security learning and describe to the participants how they use active learning in their classrooms. This effort will also help the business managers to understand the importance of information security in their businesses.
