With its high educational attainment rates, wage and job growth, and progressive policies, the Twin Cities is in an enviable position. However, the changes in store for the region demand attention. The growing race, class, and income disparities will hamper the region's future competitiveness if ignored." It calls for us to "update the basics by making sure education, health care, and public safety meet the Link: November 15, 2005Taking Self Assessment SeriouslyThe author of this article, Georgine Loacker from Alverno College states that "making student learning outcomes explicit has become an accreditation requirement, where does self assessment fit?" Do our students know how to self assess? Have you had a student ask "how did I do?" and become surprised when you tell him/her? Do they know if they've done well or not so well on a test? Or, do they look at the grade and rely on that as a measure of what they know? The author provides the reader with 'Seven Concepts of Self Assessment' and several refernces for further reading.
