Free online communication tools in education. How convenient and successful are they for a long-term, in-depth interaction among students and faculty. A comparison between e-conferencing subscription tools available on MnSCU campuses (e.g., Adobe Connect) and “free” tools such as Skype and vRoom by Elluminate aims to raise questions, spur discussion and find answers how faculty members choose their interaction tools in a hybrid and online classroom. Abstract: The Office of the Chancellor administers the enterprise license for Cisco WebEx. Nearly 100 faculty across MnSCU campuses are using WebEx to conduct online meetings, classes, office hours, and tutoring. Faculty Lodge participants will be introduced to Cisco WebEx, specifically the Training Center e-learning tool. Learn how to use the interactive whiteboard, share presentations, applications, and your desktop, use chat, a webcam, conduct a poll, and transfer control to another attendee. Basic computer skills are required. No WebEx account or previous experience is needed. For audio, participants will choose to use either a computer headset with microphone or a telephone.
