Weekend Seminars
CTL Weekend Seminars focused on learning that students could demonstrate in their coursework and in their work lives. Over the years that they were offered (2001-2006), they attracted nearly 2,000 faculty from around Minnesota by asking:
- Are you seeking the means for your students to achieve lasting learning?
- Are you looking for new designs to make your courses more interesting?
- Are you seeking time to reflect on your teaching and your students' learning?
- Are you looking for new ways to determine what your students have learned?
- Are you seeking ways for students to reach greater performance in a competitive world?
These highly rated, interactive seminars covered a variety of topics and were scheduled at locations around the state, from Moorhead to Rochester, Marshall to Red Wing and Virginia. Faculty could choose whatever seminars best suited their needs, schedule, and/or location. The seminars provided both information and ideas to use on Monday morning as well as next term. CTL Weekend Seminars had as an overall aim to foster a common, learner-centered culture on our campuses statewide.
Weekend Seminars were free to Minnesota State College and University faculty and staff. Lunch and morning and afternoon breaks were provided, and the Center for Teaching and Learning covered half of necessary lodging costs for MnSCU participants in travel status.
CTL Weekend Seminars were begun in 2001 as a part of the Learning that Lasts program, a faculty development initiative of the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Archibald Bush Foundation.
