Project Director and Other Associated Faculty and Staff:
Kristin Juliar, HEIP Director, Minnesota State University Mankato, Contact: Kristin.ju.iar@mnsu.edu, Tel.: (507)389-2707
Project Design:
The aim of the project was to address the need for a standardized, system-wide orientation for adjunct nursing faculty which can be offered online. All of MnSCU’s nursing programs would be able to access this orientation. A consultant would be hired to help develop a manual that would be used in conjunction with the online training. In addition, an online assessment course required of faculty by the Board of Nursing would be put online. Finally, an E-reference library would be created that would identify reference materials available on the web.
Project Evaluation and Outcomes:
The project outcomes were: (1) an adjunct faculty orientation manual was developed and they are working to provide two training sessions over the next six months based on the manual. (2) a 10 hour online assessment has been created and is offered online by Winona State University, (3) a E-reference library was created for adjunct faculty and is offered online by Metropolitan State University.
Lessons Learned, Dissemination and Sustainability
The project director and the and MnSCU’s Nursing Education Council will be organizing two training sessions over the next 6 months for utilization of the adjunct faculty orientation model and are working with Winona State University to continue to offer the online evaluation/assessment training. The E-reference library will be an on-going resource.
