Special Initiatives
Since CTL's beginning in 1997, shortly after the merger that created the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, the Center has administered regular programs for faculty professional, instructional, and leadership development. These regular, ongoing programs have been supplemented by several targeted and time-limited special initiatives, including those listed below (in order by start date).
- 2008 - 2010 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
- 2007 - 2009 Project Kaleidoscope
- 2007 - 2008 Core Student Outcomes Study
- 2006 - 2009 College Faculty Awards for Excellence
- 2006 - 2009 College Faculty Credentialing Courses
- 2006 - 2008 Initiatives to Promote Excellence in Teaching
- 2005 - 2006 Designed for Learning
- 2004 - 2009 Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Teaching
- 2002 - 2005 Learning That Lasts
- 1998 - 2002 Learning By Doing
- 1999 - 2001 Kellogg Leadership Institute Many of these projects built upon work done within statewide projects coordinated in the former Minnesota Community College and Minnesota State Universities systems. Some examples of major faculty development projects that focused on general education, critical thinking, and cultural diversity include:
- 1992 - 1997 Teaching for Thinking
- 1985 - 1991 Writing Across the Curriculum
CTL has received generous support for these several initiatives from partners like Project Kaleidoscope and external grantors, including the Archibald Bush Foundation and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, as well as from Office of the Chancellor partners, Instructional Technology, Minnesota Online, and the Educational Grants Unit.
